Un o fanteision y storom bach dros yr arwydd yn Abertawe yw fy mod i’n dod ar draws blogiau dw i heb eu gweld o’r blaen, fel Glossographia, blog gan ieithydd anthropolegol o Detroit. Neu efallai anthropolegydd ieithyddol yw e, pwy a wyr?

P’un bynnag, dyw e ddim yn syndod bod ei sylwadau e ar yr autoreply trafferthus ymsyg y pethau mwya call dw i wedi darllen yn Saesneg am y sefyllfa yng Nghymru.

Dim syndod chwaeth, i weld bod yr awdur yn arfer byw yng Nghwebec, ac wedi cyflwyno papur trafod yn diweddar ar y sefyllfa ynglŷn ag arwyddion ffordd uniaith Ffrangeg a dwyieithog yn y wlad honno, yn enwedig yr arwyddion Arrêt. Diddorol cymharu y sefyllfa yna a beth sy gyda ni yma yng Nghymru erbyn hyn.

Finally, important public/private tensions in Montreal’s language ideology are evident in stop signs due to the widespread practice of vandalism. Despite the prevalence of public French on stop signs, the vast majority of linguistically-identifiable vandalism is in English. Moreover, stop signs, as highly visible aspects of the city’s public material culture, are frequently vandalized in ways that reflect dissatisfaction with official language ideologies, and can thus highlight ongoing tensions.

Difyr, n’est-ce pas?

Dal efo Pat – dyma beth sy’n digwydd os ti’n rhoi gorau i flogio am sbel: ti’n mynd yn ôl at dy hen restrau o hoff flogiau ac maen nhw i gyd llawn stwff diddorol. A chei di ei ailgylchu. Un adeg oedd Pat yn cyfieithu cofnodion Morfablog i Saesneg er mwyn gwella ei Gymraeg – dyma fi’n talu nôl y cymwynas.

Y tro ’ma mae Pat wedi blogio am gofnod ar Datblogu ynglŷn â phecynnau bwyd 1.

Y peth wnaeth denu fy sylw mwya yma oedd y sylw gan MBM am y defyndd o’r ieithoedd Tsieceg a Slofaceg, sy’n debyg iawn i’w gilydd, ar becyn “Harmónie Chuti” (Tsieceg) / “Harmónia Chuti” (Slofaceg). Gan fod gwahaniaeth o ddim ond un llythyren, mae’r cynlluniwr wedi dyfeisio llythyren newydd sbon i sefyll am yr e a’r a:

<a href='http://morfablog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/maggi_harmonie_chuti2.jpg' title=’maggi_harmonie_chuti2.jpg'><img src='http://morfablog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/maggi_harmonie_chuti2.jpg' alt=’maggi_harmonie_chuti2.jpg' />

Y rheswm mae hyn wedi tynnu fy sylw yw fy mod i wedi gweld rhywbeth tebyg i hyn ugeiniau 2 o weithiau wrth farcio gwaith cartre dysgwyr Cymraeg. Nid gyda llafariaid, ond gyda’r cytseiniau p a b ar ddechrau gair lle mae’r dysgwr ddim cweit yn siwr a oes treiglad neu beidio – mae’r llythyren sy’n cael ei defnyddio yn debyg iawn i þ Islandeg/hen Saesneg.

Pobl clyfar yw dysgwyr Cymraeg ond mae rhaid codi cyn cŵn bach Caer i ddala tiwtor Wlpan ar ei gam.

(1) Sy’n atgoffa fi o’r stori (myth trefol?) glywais i am y fam di-Gymraeg a ddaeth i’r ysgol i gwyno am y neges adroddwyd gan ei mab noson cyn trip y dosbarth i Alton Towers: “Mr Jones said we mustn’t forget our feckin’ food.”

(2) O’r gorau, sawl gwaith. Tair gwaith, o leia.

Dau erthygl NUblog am amlieithogrwydd ar y we: multilingual content a multilingualism redux.

Dylen nhw fod yn ddefnydd darllen gofodol i unrhywun sy’n cynllunio gwefannau dwy- neu aml-ieithog.

O’r ail erthygl:

Ideally, you should be able to hand your translators finished HTML pages. They should know how to translate every snippet of text, including the <TITLE> of each page, metatags, ALT texts, and any text inside an HTML tag, including TABLE, the Hx series of heading tags, and everything else. In effect, they need to be qualified Web authors as well as translators.

A sawl gwaith ydych chi wedi clecian ar botwm cymraeg i ffeindio’ch hunan edrych ar neges under construction?

…which languages do you update first? Or do you update none of them until all languages have been translated? (The latter is the better way, unless you want foreign-language speakers to get the impression they aren’t wanted on the voyage.)

Rhywbeth i gnoi cil drosto.
