Hnefatafl is in the same family as the original gwyddbwyll, as mentioned in e.g. Breuddwyd Macsen Wledig. I think I played gwyddbwyll (not chess) once against real live humans (more than 20 years ago), but of course you can play most games online these days. I’ve just been beaten at hnefatafl by a tame robot here.

If you Google gwyddbwyll you get lots of Welsh language sites talking about chess, and lots English ones talking about gwyddbwyll.
I recently heard a wonderful bilingual version of Breuddwyd Macsen by the storytellers Ganthrig Bwt – they left gwyddbwyll in the original in their English version.
